"Pilot Episode?" - First Publication

I heard somewhere that Pilot episodes for tv shows were a play on words referencing the flight--”going on air”--for actual planes and pilots. LTX, an AI company with a blog post on pilot episodes, said “The pilot episode meaning is a proof-of-concept episode that shows series viability. The term comes from “pilot project” – a test before full commitment.” With this in mind, we must ask ourselves: are we putting forth a “Pilot Episode” when we start a new blog or when we begin our content creation? Do we include the moment when we publish that first fanfiction on our favorite archive? Or the moment we publish to Wattpad for our first original story?
